In addition to general medical consultations we are pleased to be able to provide specialist clinics and services covering the following areas:
If you are cold your veins will be more difficult to find. Making sure you keep warm prior to your blood test will help to speed up the procedure.
A fasting blood test means nothing to eat or drink - including gum, other than water, from 9.00pm on the day prior to the test and no alcohol for 24 hours before the test, unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Screening takes place every 3 years in women aged 50 - 70. Results are managed and sent to patients from a central point.
The Department of Health does not currently fund the routine screening of women below the age of 50 (effectively pre-menopausal women). Screening is difficult in women who still have periods because the breast tissue changes with the monthly cycle. Nevertheless, it does advocate screening women who have a first degree relative who has had breast cancer (i.e. mother or a sister) from 5 years before the age at which the relative was diagnosed.

Appointments for family planning advice are during regular surgery times. There is no contraception clinic - just book a routine appointment with a doctor during normal surgery hours. This service is provided to all patients and is free of charge. We are able to offer family planning services to any female patient whether or not they are registered with this Practice.
Smoking is Harmful not only for you, but also for those with whom you live. It is a fact that you are 4 times more likely to succeed in stopping smoking if you have help and support. Our Smoking Cessation Advisor can help you with this. If you would like to try to stop smoking, come along and discuss it with our advisor. We can answer many questions, offer support and discuss the range of products most suitable for you.
An initial appointment of 20 minutes is recommended, thereafter 10 minute appointments are needed to follow up on your progress and effectiveness of the products used. The usual programme of support lasts between 8 to 12 weeks.
For Further advice call or make an appointment with the Smoking Cessation Advisor.
You can of course always see our Practice Nurses for all kinds of general health screening, ear syringing, travel injections and advice, immunisations, dressings and wound care and other general advice and counselling.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel, you need to make an appointment with the Practice Nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and, areas within countries, that you are visiting in order to determine which vaccinations are required.
To help us offer the appropriate advice, please fill out the form below and hand it into the Surgery. You must allow 7 working days before your appointment as the Practice Nurse needs sufficient time to review your destinations and previous immunisations.

Do not leave it too late!
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - ideally 8 weeks before but at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the Practice Nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock item. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a Private Prescription and these all incur a charge over and above the normal Prescription Charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
There is further information about countries and recommended vaccinations on the links below

Even more people in Hampshire are now taking up this offer – simply ring your GP and ask for your health check. It costs nothing and is easy to arrange. The receptionist at your surgery will explain more.
One Hampshire resident told us:
“Early stage diabetes was picked up at the check, so I will be changing my diet and have already seen a Dietician for more advice. I am glad I had the check and my diabetes was found so early because this has given me a chance to make a difference to my health now"
If you receive an invitation get in touch with your GP surgery and arrange your appointment. There is a handy cut off slip to write down your appointment time, so you can keep this safe to remind you.
The new Accessible Information Standard was agreed on 24th June 2015 and all organisations that provide NHS or adult social care must follow the standard in full by 31st July 2016.
Stockbridge Surgery are waiting on literature and guidance being provided by NHS England and our Clinical Systems supplier.
The Accessible Information Standard aims to make sure that disabled people have access to information that they can understand and any communication support they might need.
The standard tells organisations how to make information accessible to the following people:
This includes making sure that people get information in different formats if they need it, such as:
Please click here for a summary document, while we await the official guidance documents.
All patients at Stockbridge Surgery have been allocated a named accountable GP.
The named accountable GP will take lead responsibility for the coordination of all services required under the contract and ensure they are delivered to each of their patients where required.
If you would like to know the name of your named GP, please contact Reception.
Having a named GP does not prevent you from seeing any other doctor at the practice as your named GP may not always be available.
Should you wish to express a preference as to which GP you have been allocated, the practice will make every reasonable effort to accommodate your request.
