PATIENT ACCESS - ONLINE
We would like to apologise for any issues you may have experienced whilst trying to access the on-line services. The problem was not within our control but was caused by a national update. We have been assured that the problem has now been rectified although when you access the on-line service you will see that it’s slightly different in appearance. On using the new site for the first time, you will have to sign on with your ID (the number you were originally given to set up your account). If you previously saved your password for automatic sign-in, the new site will not recognise this and you will have to enter it manually. Once you've gained access, you can set up your "Profile" where you can store your email address. After this is stored you can then logon with your email address and password.
NATIONAL DATA-OPT OUT SYSTEM - 25TH MAY 2018
NHS Digital is introducing a new tool that people can use to opt out of their confidential patient information being used for reasons other than their individual care and treatment. It will be secure and accessible, and will be available from 25 May 2018.
The National Data Opt-Out
NHS Digital is developing a new system to support the National Data Opt-Out which will give patients more control over how confidential patient information is used. The system will offer patients and the public the opportunity to make an informed choice about whether they wish their confidential patient information to be used just for their individual care and treatment or also used for research and planning purposes.
Choosing to Opt-Out
Patients and the public who decide they do not want their confidential patient information used for planning and research purposes will be able to set their national data opt-out choice online. NHS Digital will provide a non-digital alternative for patients and the public who can't or don't want to use an online system. Individuals can change their mind at any time. Existing Type 2 opt-outs (the option for a patient to register with their GP, to prevent their confidential patient information leaving NHS Digital) will be converted to the new national data opt-out. Patients with type 2 opt-outs will be informed of this change individually.
To opt out please go to the following website: https://digital.nhs.uk/services/national-data-opt-out-programme
NHS Digital is developing the system now. Patients and the public will be able to use the system from 25 May 2018. All health and care organisations will be required to uphold patient and public choices by March 2020. The national data opt-out will be introduced alongside the new data protection legislation.
We will publish more information as it becomes available.
GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION (GDPR)
You may well have seen or recently received documentation from other sources such as Banks etc referring to the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into effect on 25th May. This is one of the biggest changes to UK data privacy law. The GDPR is Europe’s new framework for data protection laws. It replaces the previous 1995 Data Protection Directive which current UK law is based upon.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new law that determines how your personal data is processed and kept safe, and the legal rights that you have in relation to your own data.
The GDPR is a positive step towards you having more control over how your data is used and how you’re contacted. The new Regulation supports your right to have your privacy respected and your data protected. It is designed to give you confidence that the personal information we hold about you is accurate, up to date and well managed and to give you easier access to that information if you wish to check or change it.
However, please be rest assured that we strictly maintain our legal duty of confidentiality to you at all times. We will only ever use or pass on information about you if others involved in your direct care have a genuine need for it. We will not disclose your information to third parties without your permission unless there are exceptional circumstances, such as when the health or safety of others is at risk or where the law requires information to be passed on.
Much work has to be done to become compliant with GDPR so this is currently a ‘work in progress’.
