General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

You may well have seen or received documentation from other sources such as Banks etc referring to the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which came into effect on 25th May 2018.  This is one of the biggest changes to UK data privacy law.  The GDPR is Europe’s new framework for data protection laws.  It replaces the previous 1995 Data Protection Directive which current UK law is based upon.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new law that determines how your personal data is processed and kept safe, and the legal rights that you have in relation to your own data.

The GDPR is a positive step towards you having more control over how your data is used and how you’re contacted. The new Regulation supports your right to have your privacy respected and your data protected.  It is designed to give you confidence that the personal information we hold about you is accurate, up to date and well managed and to give you easier access to that information if you wish to check or change it.

However, please be rest assured that we strictly maintain our legal duty of confidentiality to you at all times. We will only ever use or pass on information about you if others involved in your direct care have a genuine need for it. We will not disclose your information to third parties without your permission unless there are exceptional circumstances, such as when the health or safety of others is at risk or where the law requires information to be passed on.
