Ear Wax Removal
There are simple self help measures you can do to remove your ear wax. There are also local NHS and non-NHS clinics which can remove the wax for you by ear irrigation or microsuction. (Microsuction is a safe technique and it is the same technique that the ENT doctors would use.)
Step 1: Put 2 to 3 drops of olive or almond oil in your ear twice a day for 5-10 days. Over 2 weeks lumps of earwax should fall out of your ear, especially at night when you're lying down.
Step 2: If this does not work the next step is to do self ear syringing. You can buy self ear syringing kits from most pharmacies or online. An example is Otex Express Combi Pack or Medi Grade Ear Wax Removal Syringe. These tend to cost around £5-15.
Step 3: If this does not work then you are likely to need additional help to remove your ear wax.. If you contact our reception they may be able to book you in at a local NHS hub in Andover for ear irrigation. You can also directly contact a local non-NHS ear wax removal clinic. There are a number locally in Andover, Winchester and Romsey. These include Boots, Specsavers, Leighton's and more. The cost for these services range in price from £50-£100.
Please call for an urgent doctors appointment and do not self syringe if you have:
Sudden Onset Hearing Loss
Moderate or Severe Ear Pains
Ear Discharge
A Perforated Ear Drum
Never use cotton buds to try to remove ear wax - you are likely to push the wax down further and cause more of a problem.
