PSA requests and no symptoms
You can request a PSA test if you have no symptoms and are over the age of 50. Advantages and disadvantages of a PSA test, including preparing for a PSA test, can be found on this link: PSA test | Prostate Cancer UK
Please call the surgery or submit an econsult if you would like a PSA test - it is helpful to mention if there is a family history of prostate cancer at the time of requesting the PSA. This request will then be forwarded to a clinician who will be in touch, usually by text or email, to confirm a PSA request is on the system ready for you to book in for a blood test. The clinician may arrange for other bloods to be done at the same time, for example routine medication monitoring blood tests, to save you needing to have another blood test at another time.
PSA requests and symtpoms
If you have any of the below symptoms, we recommend booking a face to face appointment to disucss your symptoms and consider an examination before having a PSA test. It can helpful to bring a completed bladder diary (Input output chart.pdf) and urine sample to this appointment.
The below booklet, developed by The University of Bristol, a very helpful resource for men with urinary symptoms:
